Root Fusion Bonsai

Tree species : Ficus Religiosa / Peepal Tree
Seed sprouted around : mid Sept, 2015

This is Part 3. Read Part 1 & Part 2. 

Here I show an update on my 2.5 yrs old ficus mini bonsai. The water roots have grown thick and have partly fused together. They were cut off and planted as a root cutting. The fused roots will now become a fused trunk. This is a unique specimen in my collection and, I have not seen anything like this on the internet. I have seen trunk fusion projects but this is different.

Raintree Bonsai Update - Part 4

Here I show an update on my 2 yr old Rain Tree mini bonsai and convert it into a self watering pot. The substrate now is crushed bricks and sits in a pool of water.

Bonsai From Seed In 2 Years !

This is a 2 year progression story of my bonsai tree grown from a seed. While many countries consider it as a weed / invasive species, I feel it is a perfect bonsai material, for beginners since it is very tolerant of pests & beginner mistakes.

It is a rugged fast growing tree and available in plenty around the area where I live. This story also represents my growth in bonsai, from total ignorance to some knowledge now :-) The above video is part 3 of this story, on my blog.

Self Watering Bottle Cap Bonsai

This is a 2 yr progression of a ficus mini bonsai from seed, growing hydroponically in a bottle cap. The roots in water are sacrificial and will be eventually cut off but they give me a much faster growth than possible in my soil-mix of the same volume.

Fixing A Broken Stem Of A Rain Tree Seedling

Tree Species : Rain Tree (Albizia Saman / Monkey Pod Tree / Vilayati Siris)

Repaired On : Oct 4, 2016

I accidentally broke the stem of my 5 month old rain tree seedling & cursed myself for my carelessness on the balcony. To repair it, I just straightened the stem, made a wire clip, taped it and kept the trunk watered for a few days and is fine now, 10 days later. I felt like a doctor, treating a patient with leg fracture :-)

I scraped the round end on sand paper and soaked in water for over a day, to let the outer waterproof coating peel away. It was then planted into cocopeat and watered.

White Lead Tree Seedling

Tree species : White Lead Tree (Leucaena Leucocephala / Su-babul)
Sprouted around : Aug 7, 2015

While my 2 root cuttings died, this seedling sprouted on its own, in the garden soil that I had collected for the root specimen.

Amazing growth in just 4 months from a seed ! 52 inches tall from soil surface, trunk as thick as pencil.
